I’m not sure if it was because of the pandemic or Instagram, but I got back into reading last year in kind of a major way. 🙂
I started out the year with a goal of reading 12 books, thinking I could read one book per month. I exceeded that goal sometime near the end of the summer I think and ended up increasing my goal for the year to 30. I ended up finishing 32 books! I created a GoodReads profile in January 2021 so I would be more encouraged to read since it tells your progress on the book, or books, you are reading and you can keep up with the reading progress of others. This is where I set my goal for the year. You can find my profile on GoodReads here and see my full reviews for these books. I gave them ratings based on a 5-star system (which is what GoodReads uses) but how each person determines their rating is up to them.
Rating system I use:
5 stars: I absolutely loved it (would recommend)
4 stars: It was really good (would recommend)
3 stars: I enjoyed it, but overall it was a pretty average book
2 stars: It was alright (would not recommend)
1 star: I didn’t like it (would not recommend)

Now, the books. I tried to read from different genres and authors and begin figuring out who and what I enjoyed. I also ended up reading in different formats – physical book, ebook, and audiobook. I utilized my personal collection of books I purchased, as well as relying on my public library and its resources like Hoopla and Libby. One book also came from a Free Little Library in my city.

There were a couple of books I started and had heard really good things about, but ended up not finishing. Those books were “Malibu Rising” by Taylor Jenkins Reid and “Greenlights” by Matthew McConaughey. Maybe I’ll pick them back up, maybe I won’t.
In 2022, I’m hoping to read 50 books, so we will see how I do around this time next year!
